COMPENSATE [動詞] (損失などを〉償う、補償する、賠償する

compensate st.
compensate a loss 損失を補償する

compensate damage 損害を賠償する
*            If a supervisor(s) fails to have the due care set forth in the preceding paragraph, the supervisor(s) shall be jointly and severally liable to compensate damage to any interested person.
監督委員が前項の注意を怠ったときは、その監督委員は、利害関係人に対し、連帯して損害を賠償する責めに任ずる。(民事再生法）

compensate the whole or part of the costs 費用の全部又は一部を賠償する
The court may, where the request set forth in paragraph (1) of Article 262 is dismissed or withdrawn, order the person who made the request to compensate the whole or part of the costs arising from the procedures regarding the request on a ruling. An immediate appeal may be filed against such ruling.

Indemnification; payment of damages; making amends; that which is necessary to restore an injured party to his former position. An act which a court orders to be done, or money which a court orders to lie paid, by a person whose acts or omissions have caused loss or injury to another, in order that thereby the person damnified may receive equal value for his loss, or be made whole in respect of his Injury.
